Mango Smoothies – Tropical Tastes
I am in love with frozen mango smoothie recipes at the moment. I’ve been using frozen mango to make them extra chilled and refreshing. Alongside munching down on the juicy ripe fruit additionally.
Having had a brain wave with this tasty chocolate syrup I usually use in my coffee, I decided to give this mango and chocolate smoothie a go. It did not disappoint!
This tropical chocolate smoothie recipe is the perfect start to the day. Personally, I love smoothies to bridge the gap between breakfast and lunch. It keeps me satisfied and not too full.
Another great mango smoothie I’m loving right now is this Pear Mango Smoothie.
Mango Nutrients
Mangos are low in calories but high in other important nutrients, such as Vitamin A and C. Like all fruit it provides that essential fibre to keep your digestive system nice and healthy.
Mango also contain B6, folate, iron and in smaller quantities calcium, zinc and vitamin E.
Chocolate Mango Smoothie
Do chocolate and mango go together? Absolutely!
This chocolate and mango smoothie has a few simple ingredients, that you may already have on hand at home! I used cocoa powder in this recipe, however cacao would be more than delicious and fitting if you had this instead.
- Frozen Mango
- Banana
- Cocoa
or Cacao
- Almond Butter
- Coconut Milk
- Vegan Chocolate Syrup
Cocoa Versus Cacao
The difference between Cocoa and Cacao
is that cacao is the raw version. Cacao refers to the original source of the cacao bean. Meanwhile cocoa has usually been roasted and altered in some way.
If you are following a raw food diet or prefer raw, whole vegan foods then you will probably already have a preference for cacao over cocoa. Cacao is often minimally processed with minimal to zero additives.
Using cocoa over cacao in this chocolate smoothie recipe will give you a richer taste. Honestly I would use either and simply chose cocoa because thats what I had at home. I always like to use whats in my pantry rather than buying ingredients unnecessarily.
If you wanted to boost the protein of this smoothie, you could even use a Chocolate Protein Powder. In fact a chocolate mango protein smoothie recipe sounds just up my street too!
Whatever form of chocolate powder you use in this recipe – it will be equally delicious as lets face it, chocolate smoothies always feel like bit of a treat.
Coconut Milk
I chose to use delicious coconut milk for this tasty mango and chocolate smoothie recipe. Coconut milk felt like the natural choice to compliment the tropical mango flavours.
However you can always use what plant based milks you have on hand. Oat, almond or cashew milks would all work great.
Almond Butter
Using Almond Butter in this recipe gives it a deeper taste. Although its not entirely necessary I feel it marries both the chocolate and mango perfectly together.
You can use any nut butter of your choice, however I prefer the mild taste of almond butter.
You can totally substitute out the almond butter for pumpkin seed butter or tahini if you have a nut allergy or prefer to use seed spreads.
BEST BLENDER FOR SMOOTHIES
The best blender and my most reliable kitchen companion has been my Vitamix Blender without doubt.
Having used this Vitamix Blender for over five years, I can vouch for its robustness and reliability!
Of course buying a blender on the pricier side means its an investment – we use ours almost daily. We carefully considered it before purchasing having had a much cheaper blender break down on us.
If you don’t have room or need for a full sized blender, the ninja seems to be taking over the market as one of the best mini blenders. You can check it out here.
How To Serve Mango and Chocolate Smoothie

My favourite way to serve this mango banana chocolate smoothie is in an old jar. This particular one is big enough to fit the whole two portions which I greedily drank myself.
I often use reusable Stainless Steel Metal Straws which give cold smoothies that extra refreshing kick.
I love to decorate my vegan mango smoothies to make them extra special. Edible flowers are my jam for food decorating.
If you wanted a chocolate mango smoothie bowl rather than a smoothie – simply add less milk and use a frozen banana over a fresh one for a firmer smoothie.
